Christmas Time is Here

Hi there.  I don’t know if you know, but I love Christmas.  But enough about me.  Sort of.

I recorded a Christmas EP back in 2009 and I wanted to share the songs from it with you guys again this year, because they’re fun!  So, starting today I’ll be re-releasing one of the songs from that album every Thursday between now and Thanksgiving.  Check back on the website, facebook, twitter, whatever, to get the songs!

So this thing kicks off today!  Here’s the first song off of my EP, it’s a cover of O’ Holy Night.  I hope you love it!

Download it for free here – http://music.lorenradis.com/track/o-holy-night

So!  While I’ve got you here, the other thing I’d like to do with each song I release is talk a little bit about a charity or other group that’s doing something worth talking about this Christmas.  That’s what it’s really all about right, helping people?  So this month, I want to talk to you about Compassion International.

From their website - “Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.

Founded by the Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter, education and health care, as well as Christian training.

Today, Compassion helps more than 1.2 million children in 26 countries.”

This is one of those “Adopt A Child” programs where you can commit to a monthly gift for one specific child who you then get pictures of, can correspond with, and can buy Christmas and Birthday presents for!  Well, for Christmas they’re running a special program where you can send a one-time gift to a child or family in need on your own behalf or in honor of a loved one.  Check out the details here – http://www.compassion.com/catalog.htm

The gifts vary in price from extremely affordable to extremely generous, and I’d encourage anyone interested to help to the best of their ability!  Before we get to far, you may have noticed this is a Christian organization, and I’m aware that not everyone reading this is a Christian.  Helping children in need get clothing, food, and an education, however, is not a Christian ideal.  I believe it’s a human ideal and one worth supporting regardless of someone’s religious affiliation or lack there-of.

So to sum up, I hope you like the song, feel free to download it for free and share it with your friends and family, and I hope you get a chance to check out Compassion’s website and consider lending a helping hand to one of the most deserving groups I can think of, underpriviledged children.

Walk You Home

Hey, wanna hear a new song?  It’s one I’ve written called “Walk You Home” and it’s the song that just won me 3rd place at the New Times Music Awards!  I hope you like it, listen here – http://bit.ly/walkyouhome , and feel free to let me know what you think!

I just want to say, about this song, that it’s an honor for it to have been included in the New Times Music Awards.  It’s my third time winning (never 1st place, but there’s a season for everything, right?) and this year I was in such august company; performers like Briertone, Jody Mulgrew, Jade Jackson, and Ted Waterhouse just to name a few.  They were all amazing to watch play and the New Times does a great job putting on that awards show and if you missed it this year you should definitely try to make the next one.

Thanks for listening, again, hope you like the song.  If you wanna hear it live, come see me at the Gather Wine Bar in the Village of AG this Friday, 10/28 from 7 to 10pm!   Hope you can make it :)

Never Let Me Go

Hey!

I’ve released the first single from my upcoming album and it’s a new-ish song called Never Let Me Go!

So I wrote this song sometime last year, finally recorded it over the last few months with my Dad producing and running the studio.  This features yours truly on the guitar, bass and vocals, with Max Triplett on the drums.  My brother Ryan Radis provided the artwork, isn’t it neato??

Well, you can listen to this song all you want for free RIGHT NOW by going to the music section, you can even share it to your facebook page or twitter or whatever the cool new thing is nowadays.  I haven’t made it available for purchase yet but if you were one of the lucky ones who saw me play at Farmer’s last night then you probably went away with a free download card, lucky you!

Thanks everyone, hope you like it, there’s plenty more to come!  Including news about my official entry to the 2011 New Times Music Awards!  Talk to you soon!

There’s No Need To Be Alone

John Lennon recorded 6 different demos of his song “Real Love”. The three remaining Beatles, years after John’s death, got together and compiled one coherent song from those demos and original music they recorded in accomaniment.

It was comforting to hear that even a musician I respect as much as John Lennon had trouble writing his songs, re-writing and re-recording them time and again and even forgetting them altogether at times.

I’m working on a cover of “Real Love” and I thought it might be fun to share a little bit of the process with you.

Real Love (Cover) 6/20 by loren radis

Above is a super rough recording I did to lay down some of my ideas. The click track is in there (Just a simple drum-beat) and my scratch track (a quick demo take usually with one instrument and a voice that helps you keep track of where you are in the song) is in there too. This is the very first recording, a groundwork to build off of. More than likely none of what’s in this version will be in the final. If you find that interesting then that’s awesome.

I’ve got shows coming up, I went from none to 3 in the space of a few weeks. They’re all Farmer’s Market shows, I’ll be playing at Farmer’s on Chorro Street on June 30th, July 7th, and September 1st! They all start at 6:30pm, they’re all free, and they’ll all be awesome. See you there!

Thanks for reading,

I’ve been working on recording! I don’t have any shows on the books currently but it’s mostly because I’m focusing on getting some really solid recordings of my more recent songs. I will be playing at some upcoming Farmer’s Market shows, just check the website in about a week to find out when! I should know by May 23rd, and so will you! Go ahead and join the mailing list if you wanna be notified about stuff I’ve got coming up without the hassle of coming to the website!

One of my newest songs, that I’m currently working on recording, is called “The Painter’s Muse” and if you were listening to KCPR on Tuesday the 10th around 5pm then you heard me play it live for the first time! Hey, in case you missed it, why not listen to the show (Which JP from KCPR was kind enough to record and put up online) at writersblockkcpr.blogspot.com ! It’s pretty fun, we talk about my music, my beautiful wife, and the extremely supportive live music community in and around SLO.

Talk to you later, thanks for checking in!
